WILD HUMANS VALUES PRACTICE
AN EXERCISE IN CLARITY
WHAT IS THE WILD HUMANS VALUES PRACTICE?
A majority of leaders have never been asked to define their individual and personal values. So when asked, most leaders are stumped and cannot develop a clear answer.
THE PURPOSE OF THE PRACTICE
Though behavioral clarity and motivation play a critical role in growing emotional intelligence and self-regulation, one of the simplest and most overlooked practice is that of establishing one’s values and holding those clear and dear in their work.
This is a simple practice that helps leaders choose from a list of values and organize the priority of these values, as they exist in daily life.
WHAT ROLE DO VALUES PLAY IN DAILY LIFE AND WORK?
When conflict arises, someone feels self-doubt, or someone begins to lose trust or speculate about outcomes when engaging with other leaders, members of a team, or people in personal life it is often because their values have not been:
- Clearly defined
- Shared and discussed with others
- Paired with boundaries that support the values and the person
When someone’s values are “stepped on” it is often unconscious, unintentional, and is completely preventable. But because everyone wants to feel seen, heard and valued, this “loss” of values can be very threatening and can exist far beneath the surface in conflict and disconnection. It can even lead to the destruction of a core relationship.
