Reflection on the Lake
In a tranquil forest, you come across a serene, crystal-clear lake. Its surface mirrors the surrounding trees, like your essence reflects your true self.
Yet, sometimes a gentle breeze ripples the water’s surface, creating a distorted reflection. This is like your conditioned personality, a temporary distortion of your true essence. Your journey is to align both your essence and personality, like stilling the waters to see your authentic reflection.
Guided Somatic Practice – Breath of Self-Observation
Find a comfortable seated position with your back straight, and your hands resting on your lap.
o Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Inhale through your nose, feeling your chest and abdomen rise, and exhale gently through your mouth.
o As you continue to breathe, become aware of the sensations in your body. Focus on your breath and the rise and fall of your chest. Imagine that your breath is a gentle wave, rising and falling with your awareness.
o Now, shift your attention to self-observation. As you breathe, observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Allow them to come and go like passing clouds.
o If your mind starts to wander or judge, gently bring your focus back to your breath, using it as an anchor for self-observation.
o Continue this practice for several minutes, observing yourself and your inner world with a gentle, compassionate awareness.
o When you’re ready, open your eyes, feeling more connected to your inner self and your essence and your ability to observe without judgment. It is as much a part of you as the beat of your heart.
