Guided Somatic Practice – The Body as the Bridge
In a quiet space, stand or sit with your eyes closed and your body relaxed.
o Begin by taking several deep breaths. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your abdomen to expand, and exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing any tension in your body.
o As you continue to breathe, bring your awareness to your body. Visualize a bridge connecting two islands. One island represents your conditioned personality, and the other represents your essential self.
o With each breath, imagine walking across this bridge, starting from the island of your personality. As you walk, become aware of the sensations in your body. Notice any tension or discomfort that may arise as you leave the familiar island behind.
o As you reach the island of your essence, focus on the feelings and sensations that arise. Embrace the sense of being in touch with your authentic self.
o Spend a few moments in this state, feeling the bridge between your personality and essence. Understand that you can navigate between the two, and they are both a part of you.
o When you’re ready, open your eyes and carry this somatic experience with you, acknowledging the dialectic between your essence and personality in your daily life.
